The Burka is a veil that covers the entire face, with openings only for the eyes. The burka is worn by some Muslim women in place of the hijab, which has openings over the eyes and at other places on top of the head. It is considered immodest to show the face in public while wearing a burka or niqab. This means that most women who wear it choose to wear these garments full-time, even while sleeping. The film shows how this garment also affects the life of a married woman who has to deal with her mother-in-law and husband at the same time. The story is set in Old Delhi, India. Tannishtha Chatterjee as Gulabi, a young bride from a remote village in Bihar. She wishes to become an air hostess and move to Dubai for good, but due to her domineering mother-in-law's continuous opposition, she is unable to do so. She is usually shy and quiet, but sometimes she can be outspoken or even rebellious towards her mother-in-law or husband when it comes to standing up for herself. Sushma Sharma as Gulabi's mother-in-law, Guddi. She is an extremely strict woman who is domineering toward her daughter-in law. She doesn't want to let her daughter-in-law pursue her dream of becoming an air hostess because she thinks it will bring shame to the family. She gets angry at the slightest provocation and often physically beats Gulabi, but yet she refuses to let go of any control over her. Even though many people say that she is illogical or unreasonable, she still manages to get her way every time. Her personality is all about over controlling and she makes everyone including her sons in-laws suffer the consequences. Rakesh Bedi as Gulabi's husband, Praful. He is the second son of Guddi and he has to live with her because his father is away in Dubai. On occasions when Guddi wants to control him like she does with Gulabi, he doesn't like this at all because then he feels like a slave or that he is losing his freedom or that he has no rights as a man. He also feels guilty for not being able to give his wife what she wants and thinks it's his responsibility as her husband to make sure she becomes the best person possible. He doesn't even want to marry another woman if he were to divorce Gulabi. Kishore Kadam as Choti Lal, a brother of Praful and Guddi and father of Feroze and Neelu. He is the only reason why Guddi allows her daughter-in-law to attend college during the day. He provides money for Gulabi's education, but only under the condition that she gives his son, Feroze (a medical student) as many as possible free lessons. He also doesn't like Praful not working and permitting his wife to work instead because it makes him feel like a failure as a man which makes him feel illogical or inherently wrong or unreasonable. cfa1e77820
